Yvonne Mary (Barthel) Kalmus

MANVEL – Mrs. Yvonne Mary Kalmus passed away at the age of 77 on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Manvel.

Born August 8, 1947, in Cold Springs, Minnesota, Mrs. Kalmus was a resident of Manvel since 1979, previously of Houston. Yvonne proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 and afterward continued a life of service as a dedicated U.S. Postal Service carrier for over 20 years. She was a proud member of the American Legion in Monticello, Minnesota, and the National Rifle Association. She had a generous heart, supporting causes dear to her, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In her free time, Yvonne enjoyed reading, bowling, tending to her yard, and had a lifelong love for horses. She will be remembered for her steady presence, strong values, and quiet devotion to the people and causes she cared about.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry “Bill” Garner, Jr.; parents, Marcus and Rosalia (Scherer) Barthel; brothers, Vernon Barthel and wife, Bert, Gerald Barthel and wife, Bea.

Survivors include her daughter Catharine Kalmus and son-in-law, Jason Logsdon; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Yvonne’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
