Abel Lewis Lopez 

     TEXAS CITY - Abel “Cookie” Lewis Lopez, 68, passed from this life Sunday evening, September 18, 2016, in Houston, Texas. 

     Born May 16, 1948 in Olmito, TX, Abel lived most of his life in Texas City, but spent his youth in Algoa where he was a graduate of Santa Fe High School.  He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked as an electrical supervisor for Union Carbide/Dow Chemical from 1970-2001, retiring after 31 years. Abel was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Texas City and the IBEW Union Local #527.  He coached softball, was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, music and barbequing.

     He is preceded in death by his father, Alvino Lopez, Sr. Survivors include his loving wife, Laura Lopez of Texas City; mother, Margarita Lopez of Dallas; son, Dr. Stephen Lopez of Uniontown, OH; daughter, Jennifer Harden of Spring; brothers, Arnulfo Lopez and wife, Laurainda of Conroe, Adolfo Lopez and wife, Mary Lou of Santa Fe, Alvino Lopez, Jr. and wife, Kathie of Webberville; sisters, Aurora Gonzalez of Algoa, Adela Flores and husband, Rudy of Coppell, Alma Waldrop and husband, Garland of League City; grandchildren, Jarrod and Jordan Harden of Tomball; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

     Special thanks to AMED Hospice, St. Luke’s Hospital and longtime best friend, Gary Allred.

     Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, with Reverend John Kappe officiating. A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the American Heart Association, Post Office Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284-1125.
