Annie Louise Cates Vassallo

Annie Louise Cates Vassallo passed away Friday afternoon, August 25, 2017, in Pearland, Texas.

She was born in Huntsville, TX on September 8, 1922 to James Hilliard and Minnie Pearl Cates.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Vassallo (2003); son in-law William Larro (2013); and is survived by her daughter, Judy Larro and son Jim Vassallo.  Judy is retired from the Berkshire Union Free School district in Canaan, New York and Jim is a professional musician with Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet as well as on the faculty of the  University of Houston, Moores School of Music.

Annie graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Masters in Elementary Education and continued her education receiving a Masters of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  She began her career at First Baptist Church in Dallas and for many years wrote children religious literature for the Southern Baptist convention.  After leaving Dallas she taught elementary school in Huntsville, Lufkin, Galveston and Texas City for 38 years.  

She has requested to not have a memorial service or visitation.
