Carl Edgar Kettler, Sr.

     ALVIN – Mr. Carl Edgar Kettler, Sr. passed from this life Wednesday afternoon, October 5, 2016, in Alvin.

     Born to Fred and Ethel Kettler on May 1, 1927. Carl proudly served his country in WWII coming home to marry Mary L. Kirk in 1947, together they raised six children on a dairy farm in Alvin. He retired after 40 years as an operator with Brazoria County and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5400 and the FOE AERIE 3789 of Santa Fe.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ellen Mangrum and Josephine Moore; the mother of his children, Mary L. Kettler; son-in-law’s, Wayne Oliver, LeRoy Lambeth and Arthur Rathke; grandsons, Corey and Kevin Oliver; granddaughter, Dee Dee Oliver.

     Survivors include daughters, Carol Rex, Brenda Oliver, Kathy Brady and husband, Darrell, Jeanette Rathke, Linda Pipes and husband, William; son, Carl Edgar Kettler, Jr, all of Alvin; brother, Nero Kettler and wife, Sarah; 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren.

     Memorial services will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Mr. Jessie Atkins officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Edgar “Trey” Kettler, III and Christopher William Kettler.

     Visitation with the family will be from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
