HITCHCOCK - Mrs. Maria R. Compean passed peacefully from this life Friday evening, January 20, 2017, in Galveston surrounded by her loved ones.

Born July 4, 1931 in San Antonio, Mrs. Compean had been a resident of Hitchcock since 1950.  Mary inspired and touched many lives with her selfless acts of love. She was a strong and courageous woman whose reserved laugh could still bring a smile to your face.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Angelita Harness; husband, Simon Compean; and granddaughter, Angela Molina.

Survivors include her son, Rick Compean and wife, Pam of La Marque; daughters, Delia Molina and husband, Jim of Texas City, Diana Morales of Hitchcock; brother, Ed Harness and wife, Mary of Hitchcock; grandchildren, Richard, Erica, Jimmy, Rachel and Veronica; great-grandchildren, Christian, Kaydence, Ethan, Ricky, Travis, Jr., Ava-Marie, Robert Jr, Angela, Kannon; nephew, Stephen Harness and niece, Angela Garza.

Pallbearers will be Richard Compean, Robert Bueno, Tom Fuentez, Stephen Harness, Jimmy Molina and Glenn Schanzer.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m.at the funeral home, 10412 Highway Six, (409) 925-3501.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
