Prentiss Gene “Pete” Yates 

     GOODRICH – Mr. Prentiss Gene “Pete” Yates passed from this life Thursday morning, March 30, 2017, in Galveston. 

     Born April 20, 1942 in Cushing, Texas, Mr. Yates had been a resident of Goodrich for 7 years, previously of Texas City. Pete had worked as a machinist at Marathon Oil Company for over 40 years, was a member of United Steel Workers Union Local #13-1 and enjoyed watching sports. 

     He is preceded in death by his parents, Gavis Warner Yates and Helen (Peyton) Yates Sweeney; son, Russell Bullacher; brother, Ted Yates; sister, Carolyn Morgan. 

     Survivors include son, Robert Yates and wife, Paige of Benton, Arkansas; daughter, Denise Theobald of Santa Fe; sister, Mary Leining of Goodrich; grandchildren, Taylor Yates of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cody Yates and Joe Yates, both of Benton, Arkansas, Chad Theobald of Santa Fe, Misti Bullacher of Houston, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Theobald, Hailey, Lacey and McKenzie McGaugh; numerous nieces and nephews. 

     Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery, 7301 Memorial Drive, Hitchcock, Texas, with Mr. Carl Efird officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. 

     Honorary pallbearers will be Aren Leining, Ronnie Morgan, Chad Theobald, Cody Yates and Joe Yates. 

     Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Pete’s name to American Diabetes Society, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, Virginia 22202. 

     A celebration of life will follow the service at the U.S.W. Union Hall, 2327 Texas Avenue, Texas City.
