Welcome to the memorial page for

Lana Joyce (McKee) Bowman

January 23, 1948 ~ January 6, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Lana Joyce McKee Bowman

Joyce was born in Galveston, Texas on January 23, 1948 to RC Samuel and Bernice Douglas McKee and grew up full of life as a true BOI (Born on the Island).  She met and accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at age eight, at Broadway Baptist Church, under the teaching of Reverend Charles Smith.

Joyce was a popular teenager at Galveston Ball High School who excelled in twirling and was the Drum Major of the band her senior year – 1965-1966.  After school she went to Alvin Junior College and worked at the Galveston Yacht Club.

Joyce met and fell in love with Albert Bowman, a young medical doctor, in 1966.  They were married on May 25, 1968 and made their home in LaPorte, Texas.  Here, they became active members of the Bayshore Baptist Church and co-taught a couples class for eight years.

Joyce loved flying and obtained her private pilot’s license in 1970.  She also loved traveling in an RV.  It began with a honeymoon in an Air Stream trailer and developed into a lifelong love of motorhomes and traveling the United States from one end to the other.

Joyce and Al moved to Friendswood in 1976 and were active members for thirty years at the First Baptist Church, where they taught a couples class.  In 2005, they moved their membership to Clear Lake City’s University Baptist Church, where they became members of the New Horizon’s Sunday School class.

Her love for people and life led her to go back to school after all the kids were educated.  She went to UHCL and obtained a Bachelors Degree in 1977, followed by a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2000. She became a certified Belief Therapist and used belief therapy, based strictly on the Word of God, as her working model.

Joyce’s life was filled to the brim with joy, love and fun.  She loved spending time with family and friends, especially caring for her many grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, making and presenting puppet shows in children’s church, horseback riding, traveling, downhill and cross country skiing, fishing, gardening, baking, decorating, canoeing and kayaking, camping backpacking, making flower arrangements and quilling (not quilting).

Joyce is survived by her husband, Al Bowman and their four children: Melodie Shelton and her husband, Jim, her children, Christopher, Cameron and Carson and her grandchild, Theodore Bear; Mindy Clark and her husband, Jack and their children, Jacqueline and Victoria; Sharie Maddux and her husband, Dennis and their children, Robert, Rachel, Robyn and Raelee and Shelly Letzkus and her husband, Brian and their children Eden and Faith.

Joyce is also survived by her three siblings: Rodger McKee and his wife Ruth and their children, Rhonda and Rodger; Richard McKee and his wife Patricia and their daughter, Allison; Delaina Hanssen and her son, Byron.

Joyce also leaves behind many other relatives and close friends that loved her deeply.
